Helping Genentech Offer Hope to Cancer Patients and Caregivers August 14, 2003

Jel Inc. announced the launch of the redesigned website for Genentech's non-Hodgkin's lymphoma treatment, Rituxan (http://www.rituxan.com/). Jel created a user experience that complements offline marketing materials and messaging, while offering both patients and Healthcare professionals easy access to key information and materials about the benefits of Rituxan.
Jel also collaborated with Genentech to revise the way users access and use supporting materials for Rituxan. Genentech offers users of Rituxan access to the Discoveries Program, a tremendous library of printed and video materials that help users cope with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and get the most out of their Rituxan Treatment. Jel converted the Discoveries Program printed materials into PDF format, providing visitors with a means to download materials rather than simply ordering the materials online. This conversion included the digitization of videos into Real Media formats for online streaming. These changes will both increase the access for users, and reduce fulfillment costs for the Discoveries Program. In order to support users that wish to order the materials, instead of accessing them online, Jel created a streamlined order process, and automated submission of new orders to Genentech's fulfillment vendor, saving time and money.
"We are pleased to assist Genentech in with this innovative approach to improving care for cancer patients by enabling easier, more convenient access to important resources. This approach will also reduce the direct cost to Genentech", said Jon Lee, Jel's CEO.
During the project, Jel converted the technical architecture from an outdated HTML and Perl CGI-based platform to a J2EE/JSP platform, achieving significant gains in performance and reliability while utilizing Genentech's new architecture framework. Jel developed the site using the Apache Struts Web application framework, which offers a high-performance, easy-to-maintain Java foundation for the site.
